In late April 2017, just after starting a new job that I felt would be an improvement to my family's quality of life, I received horrible news.
A friend I'd made through work, Andrew Land, had passed away in his sleep. We had worked closely over the previous five months and I'd come to consider him a good friend. The news was devastating.

A little less than three weeks later, I lost the job. It wasn't Andrew's death that contributed to my firing, but it punctuated my loss and felt like a real gut punch.

That night, hopeful but still stunned, I wrote "Waiting" while thinking about how he'd find a way to make me laugh and reframe the situation in more manageable terms. I still grieve. He leaves a void - for me as well as the incredible number of other people he blessed with his friendship and kindness.

In an effort to make him laugh in the afterlife, I took my acoustic demo and turned the song into a synth-folk ballad. Wherever he is, he's shaking his head right now and I wouldn't have it any other way.
