Weightless 01:39

So much more than a name, trust the shifting sand Don't let it define - cling away, don't demand Slinging mud or slinging love, which will heal a wound? Truth builds a door to open I don't know where to begin to tell you Don't know how it will end - I want to So much more than the skin, what eyes identify Don't let it define - actions speak where bodies lie Are you zeroes, are you ones, or something else instead? Truth liberates the stolen I don't know where to begin to tell you Don't know how it will end - I want to

Summertown 02:49
Now's your time Rise and shine Open your eyes We can fly I hope I never let you down Summertown Hundreds of miles What we found Seven states Look around I hope I never let you down I hope I never let you down

Sally Forth 04:15
You were selfish to the end I was a fool again and again All the lies you served with smiles And my eyes – I chose to be blind We carried on, we played our parts I worried sick night after night Lied to myself when I knew the truth You openly gave me proof I never wanna see your face again I never wanna see you again In the shadows, they followed you in I watched them come and go Nothing was sacred and nothing was true Indiscretions with people I knew Until we struck the stage Until we signed the final page I was your fool again and again It started the day I let you in So I never wanna see your face again I never wanna see you again Not again
6.
Monitors 04:13
Asleep like a monitor, a patiently blinking light An amber pulse and no one is missing tonight (that’s wishful thinking) You haven’t been turned off in a long, long time And that’s the only way you’ll ever get turned on again They were called blue movies – is Hollywood the saddest setting For faking intimate moments (with all those cameras) It doesn’t seem to turn you on, or relieve your stress That’s not the only way life manages to turn you off So you turn up your guitar and hope for the best Asleep like a monitor, and everyone’s sleeping tonight Asleep like a monitor, and everyone is sleeping tonight Sleeping tonight Go to sleep tonight

The Dialogue 04:03
You sent it in a telegram, like that makes it a secret And the desperation was received, but I don't wanna hear it You wanna claim the wonders and keep them shackled to land The world you know from magazines through the eyes of a blind man And sometimes, I see us trying Some of us are learning, past denying It's not directly our fault, But the history of our skin makes us complicit You said your rights were stripped away, just like you're in a prison But you've never known a jail cell, you've never been hemmed in Life for us is comfort that's not afforded to all And I wish there were no margins, no lines to divide us at all Believe me, I've been tone-deaf too And I have a lot to learn, just like you So stand up and share this weight We can learn and rise above before it's too late.

Beloved 03:50
I live for waking up with you, with you Nothing else compares to you, to you At least we know what love feels like And now we know what we have to lose Sundays are worthwhile with you, with you Even with the working week in front of you At least we know what love feels like Love is the simplest thing to do And at least we know what love feels like Even in a world where nothing is alright, nothing is alright, nothing is alright
10.
We watch the news today Watch the world go up in flames Our words tarnished with hate Watch the world go up in flames Watch the families divide Dragging down where anger hides Our bonds dis i n t e g r a t e Watch our hearts bleeding dry We cross the line Do you mean the words you say? You'd burn down Paradise today? We cross the line

Kaleidoscope 05:15
I can't sit down, o I'm on fire And nothing rhymes - it doesn't matter Here's my sentence and time will tell Broke and I'm broken and nobody knows And the world keeps spinning, bless my soul Through the lens and set adrift And life is careening out of control Turn the wheel and the colors shift And I keep quiet, with living proof We're powerless in the lion's mouth A calendar, or a ticking bomb I spoke but it's token, when the jaws have closed And the world keeps spinning, bless my soul Through the lens and set adrift And life is careening out of control Turn the wheel and the colors shift And the world keeps spinning in reverse Through the eyepiece, light reveals All distractions bad to worse In a fairytale ending I want it to be real.

about

What began as a lofty goal to write two new songs to play on my first tour in 2018 became album #4. What began with my new live band (informally named Lake Lunar) became a list of ten collaborators.

It's not a reaction to the last album, TRIALS, but it is in the same vein. It's a step or ten forward too.
